Literacy homework 9.5.13

The 100 word challenge

What is the 100 word challenge?

A prompt is given, which can be a picture or a series of individual words and the children can use up to 100 words to write a creative piece. The word count is to encourage you to really think about which words you are using and be super creative with your choices.

Give it your best effort because your friends will be marking your homework and our quad blogging friends from around the world will also be reading and commenting on our pieces of writing.  Good luck!

This is your prompt...

…suddenly the pain in my arm…

An example of using this in your writing is below:
Dearest Abigail… I wrote in silence, the only noises joining me were the airy gusts of wind seeping through my tiny window. I ignored, eager to finish this unfulfilling letter. Suddenly the pain in my arm went from lightly aching to extreme shock and agonising torment. “I think I should take a well deserved rest…” I said aloud, whilst scrunching up the paper and tossing it with the others.

  1. I was playing with my brother and sister. I then decided to play tag. "Holly, Nathan, lets play tag!" I yelled at them so we played tag. Holly was the first to be tag. She started chasing me. She ran faster, and faster, and FASTER still, and then... "Tag! Your it Kate!" I didnt stop running. I looked at her trying really hard to slow down. but i went FASTER, AND FASTER until i crashed into the bench my mum was sitting on. "Oh dear me Kate, be careful next time," my mum said to me. She gave me a big hug. Then my brother Nathan came. "We are playing tag, not give mummy a hug, Kate and Holly," he pointed at us rudely. "Kate has a pain in her arm, thats why," Holly snorted at Nathan. So all day long I spent the day at the hospital. my mum was with me. my dad was at home with Holly and Nathan. I learnt a lesson to ALWAYS LOOK WHERE YOU ARE GOING.

    The Amazing Save
Today's the final of the Europa cup in the new spectacular Barcelona stadium. The best part is i'm the goalkeeper!!. I've trained extremely hard to win the cup.
The kick-off just began and already my team has given away a penalty!.
I'm really anxious as its the final against a great team.
All of a sudden i noticed the opposite team strike a brilliant shot, the ball came zooming towards me, unbelievably i blocked it!.
My team mates joyfully cheered not noticing my injury. Suddenly the pain in my arm tingled and my fingers trembled with excruciating discomfort.

  6. THE HOLE LIVER
Once there was a balloonist in china. He had three children-two boys and one girl. At Saturday
the children were running around in the garden and suddenly, the balloonist said, “ Children, do you want to visit The Great Wall?”
    “Yes!” everyone yelled at once.
“ So, what are we waiting for? Lets go!” shouted the balloonist.
Everyone got on the car and Jaden said “ Hey Jake.”
“ What is it Jake?” asked Jake.
Jaden replied, “ I bet that I can run to the end of The Great Wall before you. ‘Cos I am faster than you.”
“ Bet you can’t. Remember the last time we had a race? I won. Because I am faster in the house,” said Jake showing off.
When they came off the car, Jake and Jaden started running. It took a long time for Jaden to take the lead. When Jaden was far, far away from Jake, he started to look behind and didn’t look where he was going. But when he looked forwards it was too late to stop. There was a big hole and he accidently fell down the hole & died.
    THE END

  7. Trips to the Hospital!
I was walking into Handwriting class and accidentally shut the door on my finger. I felt a sharp throbbing pain in my pinky. I ended up going to Hospital and the doctor had to make 3 needle holes in my finger to relieve the pressure.

A few days later I hurt another finger!

I was in the kitchen cutting an apple with a knife when I accidentally cut my finger. My finger started bleeding and the cut was so deep I had to see the doctor again. The doctor put a steri strip and dressing on my finger.

I still have 8 working fingers at the time of writing this.

My mum thinks I am trying to get out of Cello practice!

Well done Pratyaksh, an interesting extract. Try not to write in capital letters, so we can check your punctuation. Read through your work to check your extract reads fluently.

I was having fun in the garden with my friend Alice when suddenly I bumped into the swing, my arm was paining. “OWWWWWWWWWWWWWW”I shouted. There was a big cut on my arm and had to go to the hospital. I was crying as mad as a dog howling. When I met Dr.Row he said “I have to stitch your arm”. I was so scared because mum had to go out of the room and I knew I have to listen him. After a month’s rest to my arm, I was allowed to use it again, which made me so happy!!!

On the bank holiday weekend my mum searched the internet to try and get some tickets for Walking with Dinosaurs, eventually she was able to get some for Saturday 4th May. My mum nan auntie Emma and brother Mason all travelled to Wembley. First we caught a bus to the station, then two trains, and a very long walk to Wembley Arena. We were all very exited about our day out so it did'nt seem to bad. After the show however we were all very tired and our feet hurt but it was worth it, it was an exellant show.

  16. I was in the car, I was very excited about seeing everything beautiful in the amazing central London. First everyone in the car was noisy, second it was very quiet. When we entered central London, I noticed something at the corner of my eye, it was this jelly thing, it was spikey, slimy, shiny and slippery. But the thing was on the road. Any minute now, my dad's tires are going to run over the jelly thing which will cause them to slip. So I immediately said "Dad, watch out!", but he wouldn't listen, in fact he was aiming for it. It was 10cm away. I didn't know what my dad was up to, it sounded mysterious and weird. The tires did run over the jelly thing and it did cause it to slip so the car slided into the wall. So now my dad learned his lesson which is he should listen to children no matter what. The End

  17. John’s pain
The Primer class at the Episcopal School of Dallas went outside for recess. Betsy, Roman, Ella and Tennie ran to the swings. Isabel, Gavin and Henry raced to build in the sandbox. Emily, John and Jackson jogged to climb the monkey bars. As John was reaching for the next monkey bar, his hand slipped and he fell to the ground. Then suddenly he felt a pain in his arm. A dear classmate took John to the school nurse for a proper examination. At the nurse he got a wrap on his arm.
