London landmarks

Last week all of year 2 visited the Museum of London to see the Fire of London gallery and have a storytelling session about the fire. The children really enjoyed the whole experience of the day. Thank you to all the parents who helped on the day.

Jia said " I thought it was going to be boring but I really enjoyed the storytelling and seeing the fire of London gallery"

This week we have been learning about maps and how to use them. We used our playground to draw our own map of London adding features like the Thames and the London landmarks we have been learning about as well as many others. We were able to make our own choice as to where to plot each item on the map and decribe its position using the grid reference.

Welcome back to school.

I have enjoyed hearing about everyones Christmas break.

We will be starting our new theme London landmarks this term. Thank you to all the children who worked really hard over the break making their fantastic models of London landmarks. We will be sharing them with the rest of the school outside our classroom. Take a look at some of the pictures.

We will be visiting the Museum of London on Wednesday 25th January, please return permission slips as son as possible.

End of term

Over the last couple of weeks we have been busy in year 2 practising and performing the Nativity, learning songs ready for our church visit and completing our Vikings theme.

We had an exciting afternoon on Monday when the whole of key stage one got together to have our christmas party. It was great to eat, dance and play together.

Our new theme when we return after the christmas break will be London Landmarks.

Winter walk

This week in 2C we have been experiencing the winter by taking a winter walk around the school grounds. The class used the experience to write a description of a winters day and winter poems. We will be sharing them in this weeks sharing assembly.

Olympic viewtube pictures and Barbican trip

Over the last couple of weeks we have been reading the book traction man by Mini Grey. We have used the stories and adventures to help us with our creative writing. The final outcome was to produce a comic strip using speech bubbles, captions, wow words, backgrounds,

characters and ICT. Everyone really enjoyed completing the comic strips using ICT.

Also this week the whole of year two visited the Barbican to watch the LSO perform Millies Marvelous hat. We enjoyed singing a song we have learned with the orchestra at the event and really enjoyed learning about the different instruments and sounds of the orchestra.

Mini Olympics and trip to Viewtube

We have been very busy in 2C over the last couple of weeks. We have come together as a whole year group to compete in the JB Olympics as part of our creative curriculum theme the Olympics. Thank you to all the year 6 children who helped us on the day.

Last Friday 2C went on a trip to Viewtube as part of our Olympics theme, children were able to view the developing Olympic site and take part in a History and Geography lesson learning about the Olympics. The children loved travelling by london Underground and the DLR.

Pictures of the Olympics day and trip will follow shortly.

On returning after the half term holiday we will be starting a new creative theme learning about the Vikings.

Over the last couple of weeks we have been learning lots of new things. We have looked at puppets around the world as part of our international week theme and have focused on shadow puppets. We have designed and created our own shadow puppets and used them to tell a story. Take a look at our pictures.

We have come to the end of our Rainforest theme and will be starting our new theme Seaside next week. The children have really enjoyed learning about the rainforest and all the different activities we have completed during the theme.

We will be making model lighthouses during arts week as part of our new theme and will be asking children to bring in empty, clean items such as bottles, egg boxes, cereal box etc to use when making the models.

transport musuem

Last Week Yr 2 visited the transport musuem in covent garden. We had a wonderful day out. The children loved everything about the day, the tube ride, riding the lift, the street performers and most importantly the musuem itself. The behaviour and sensibility of children was excellent. Many thanks to the parents and support staff who volunteered their time to support the adventure .

Hey all hope you had a great easter. This week 2c celebrated heritage week. As a result the children were involved in various activities that represented English Culture. Activities included Cricket, Beetle Drive, Dancing, Flag making, English Tales and Cucumber sandwiches..

Over the last couple of weeks year two have visited the Redbridge drama centre and enjoyed role playing the parts of pirates searching for treasure. The children have been learning about night time and nocturnal animals. We also put on a fantastic performance of the Happy hat seller with the rest of key stage one. When we return from the Easter break we will be starting our new theme, minibeasts and the Rain forest. Please remember to complete your half term project ready for the return to school. Also remember to complete trip slips for our visit to the Transport museum. Have a great easter break.

Last week we learnt about road safety through an assembly take a look at our pictures. We learnt that you must always stop, look, listen and think when crossing the road.

We have also been enjoying our theme about transport and have been researching vehicles from the past and present using fronter. If you would like your childs fronter log in and password please let me know.

We will be visiting the redbridge drama centre on Thursday 31st March so please ensure your child returns their permission slip at least 24hours prior to the trip.

Hainault forest country park

This Monday 2C went on a trip to Hainault forest country park as part of our theme country and farming. We walked from school to the forest looking at the features of our local area and discussing the effects we have on our environment. We had a great time looking at the wildlife and scenery. Christmas class party

Year 2 will be having Class parties on the Thursday 16th December in the afternoon. please bring party clothes in a named bag so that the children can get changed after lunch. we would be grateful for any party food contribution that the children can share. Please come to school in full uniform as we will be going to the church in the morning. Thank you

I've got a B in my Bonnet

We had fun learning how to play the B note on the recorder. We used our B note in a song and had lots of fun learning it. Kotryna said " I love playing the recorder." Tomiwa said "You have to cover the holes properly otherwise it squeaks."

Games

Our Topic is Games. We had a chance to look at different types of games from the past and games that we play today. We researched about games that children play around the world. We played a game called 'Bimbo' from Italy and a game called 'Blarney Stone' from Ireland. We had lots of fun! The video shows the class playing 'Bimbo.' Bimbo means captain in Italian. The children stand in lines with their hands behind their backs. the Bimbo or captain gives a leaf to two children. The Bimbo then shouts "Stop Thief! Lucky Leaf! The children with the leaves have to run to the opposite line and give their leaf to someone before the Bimbo catches them.
The next video is of the class playing a Chinese game. The children kneel in a circle and pass a shoe under their knee. Another child has to guess who has the shoe.

Connectives

This week we have introduced time connectives. We looked at how time connectives are used in the story 'Six Dinner Sid' by Inga Moore. We then sequenced pictures from the story and worked in a group to decide what time connectives could be used with each picture. We then retold the story using the time connectives. Here are two short videos of two groups retelling the story.

Performing the Garden

On Wedensday KS1 and Foundation classes performed the musical show The Garden for a group of people from Kielder Close Day Centre for the elderly.
They really enjoyed watching the children sing and after some Year 5 childeren served them tea and biscuits.

Butterflies hatch!!

Y2 have been observing the progress of caterpillars as they turn into chrysalis and then into butterflies.
We saw the butterflie after they had emerged from their chrysalis and then
released them into the garden.

Redbridge Drama Centre visits

On Moday 21st June Redbridge Drama Centre visited Y2 classes.
The children were involved in creating dramas about the Seaside.

World Cup Final

At the end of Arts week we held a World Cup Final.
All the children enjoyed watching the games and cheered on their class.
Thanks to Mr. Cheek and Mr. Williams for helping during the games.

Visit from Chingford High school

During Arts week some children from Chingford High School helped us with some creative activities for our Arts Week.
KS1 were taught a simple dance by Emily from the musical Greese and Rebecca wrote poems with the classes.
Jame Fresco also ran small workshops to show the children the guitar and how to play a simple choed.

On Thursday PC Laurie came to visit KS1 to talk about Stranger Danger.
She read a story and we saw a video but best of all the children tried on a selection of helmets!! Mrs. Whiteson even got handcuffed!!

A trip to the Barbican

On Monday 7th June the Year 2 classes visited the Barbican for a concert with the London Symphony Orchestra. We performed a song with the orchestra about the story of Little Red Riding Hood.There was lots of actions and intepretation of the song. It was a great experience for us all!!

On Monday 10th May year 2 children visited London Zoo.
We visited the Rainforest exhibition as well as Butterfly House, The Gorilla Kingdom and the Reptiles.
We had a fantastic time and wished we could have stayed longer!!

Hi, We have begun our Rainforest project and the children have been describing settings and animals from the Rainforest. They have also planned a sculpture for a 3D minibeast!!.
Our visit to the zoo on Monaday 10th May will help to teach the children more about the Rainforest.

On Wednesday the author and artist Paul Geraghty came to visit the school to tell stories and draw pictures about his books.
We have been reading his book The Hunter whcih is about a little girl called Jemima and how, when she becomes separated from her grandfather in the forest, finds a baby elephant. She leads the baby back to the herd as its own mother has been killed by humters.
It is a great story and beautifully illustrated!!

Visit to Hainault Forest Farm

On Wednesday we visited Hainault Forest Farm to see and feed the animals there.
We saw pigs, sheep, goats, donkeys, chickens, geese and rabbits.

Visiting London Transport Museum

We visited London Transport Museum in Covent Garden on Monday 22nd March.
The children loved exploring the old vehicles and finding out about transport in the past.

Visit to the National Gallery

On Monday 1ST March Y2 visited the National Gallery. We looked at te work of the Impressionist artists, Mobet, Sisley and Pissarro.
We found our favourite paintings and were lucky enough to have lunch in Trafalgar Square!!

Vist to the British Museum

On Monday Y2 classes visited the British Museum in Holborn.
We travelled on the Tube.
Although we wanted to particul;arly looka at the Viking exhibits we also took the opprotunity to visit other galleries such as the Romans, The Egyptians and the African galleries

Y2 Trip to London

On Monday 9th November Y2 classes went into London on the Underground to see London Landmarks.
We saw St. Paul's, The Monument, Tower Bridge, London Bridge and the Fire of London Exhibition at The Museum of London.
What a fantastic experience!!!!

"My First Acrostic competition"

Some children entered an acrostic poem competition last term.
All entries were successful and those children who wrote a poem received a certificate and a book mark!!
Some of the poems have also been chosen for publication in one of the regional books representing the best of the children's work, My First Acrostic-Tiny Treasures.
Well done to Dominic, Aaron, Ellie, Rushil, Maya, Eve, Nia, Oliver, Pranami, Shaan, Airin,Aimee, Joe, Rebecca, Tyreese, Anisa, Julia, Shaniya, David, Maui, Chi Chi, Victor, George, Abdul.
We are looking forward to reading the poems in our complimentary school copy!!

An Autumn walk

This week Y2 classes took advantage of the weather to take an Autumn walk in the park.
The children were facsinated by the signs of Autumn.
They collected coloured leaves, conkers,acorns and did some bark rubbings.
This walk inspired poetry and we wrote some acrostic poems.
Here is one that we wrote as a class:

All the leaves are falling
Under the breeze,
Turning, turning,
Up in the air

Vist to Redbridge Sports Centre

On Tuessday 15th September Y2 classes visited Redridge Sports Centre for a taster session on the trampoline.
The children had a fantastic time even though they got rather wet on the journey back!!

What happened to the butterflies?

We purchased some caterpillars for the class to observe.
Within a few days they had grown significantly.
Eventually they began to spin their silk to form a chrysalis or cocoon.
During half term Mrs. Whiteson noticed that they had hatched out into five beautiful tortoiseshell butterflies.

Drama with Johnny - Y2W

St. George was a very brave knight,

A trip to The Transport Museum Covent Garden

On Monday 26th the Y2 classes visited the Transport Museum in Covent Garden.
The children loved the old vehicles. They particularly enjoyed "driving " the vehicles and climbing on board some of the old trams!!

Kielder Close Visit

On Thursday we vistited Kielder close day centre for elderly people. We prepared some questions to ask them about their past. We found out a lot of information about the past!!
One of the Ladies we saw was 104years old!!

We have been using lots of equipment to help with our numeracy work.
Some of us have used a number line to jump forward and backwards to work out addition and subtraction problems. Others have used the bead bars to solve number problems. It really helps us!!!
